RoboVM Java-to-iOS dev device meets with its conclusion


The program interpreted Java bytecode into x86 code or native ARM, featured a Java-to-Objective C bridge, and supported Android development. It had been obtained by cross platform software seller Xamarin Microsoft in October, which in turn was purchased by Microsoft in February. The technology has been nixed completely.

“Within recent weeks, we have been working with all the teams at Xamarin and Microsoft to measure the technology and business states of RoboVM to ascertain the route forward for the products,” said RoboVM CEO and cofounder Henric Muller. “After considering the whole landscape for cellular development with Java, the choice was made to wind down development of RoboVM.”

Discontinuance, Muller said, would not have any impact on programs developed with RoboVM that were sending. For Android jobs and programs built in RoboVM Studio, programmers can open and compile these in in IntelliJ Idea or Android Studio. Any crossplatform RoboPods used on iOS and Android should continue to work in those jobs, issue to changes that were breaking, he explained. RoboPods are bindings and code libraries for third party services.

For programs in development, RoboVM is advocating alternative Java SDKs that goal iOS. Programmers use Xamarin tooling for Android programs and also can port Java source code.

The cessation follows a decision in November to take RoboVM citing a dearth of competitions and community contributions using the code. Microsoft on Monday morning declined to supply additional comment on the destiny of RoboVM.
